PERRY COUNTY, Ala. — The Perry County community is in mourning following the tragic death of Erika Latavia Latham, 26, of Reform, who lost her life to gun violence early Sunday morning.
Authorities report that just after 1 a.m., Uniontown police responded to the 200 block of Water Avenue after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Latham deceased at the scene. The sudden loss has left her family, friends, and neighbors devastated.
The State Bureau of Investigation, alongside Uniontown police and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, is leading the investigation. 33-year-old Deandre Brandell Langhorne of Uniontown has been identified as the suspect and has been charged with manslaughter. Langhorne was booked into the Perry County Jail, where he remains in custody. Authorities have not disclosed a motive.
Uniontown Police Chief Mike Kiser said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends affected by this senseless act. Violence like this has no place in our community.”
